Sandpiper Students Are SMART About ART!
Students at Sandpiper receive 43 minutes of art instruction during every special area rotation. During that time, students have the opportunity to engage in activities such as drawing, painting, art history, sculpture, printmaking, and crafts. Art concepts are taught through activities based on the Elements of Art: line, shape, color, texture, form, space and value.
Art instruction lends itself to integrating with other subject areas. The purpose of these activities is to help students develop awareness of, and appreciation for, the skills in communicating through art, and a feeling of pride and satisfaction in their work. Multicultural art activities are infused into the curriculum. Art in the elementary school gives students the opportunity to develop an interest in art appreciation and to develop critical and creative thinking skills.
Sandpiper has an annual fundraiser art project where families may purchase a variety of fun products featuring their child's very own artwork.

Band
Band is an option for all 4th-6th grade students. Band meets on Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday during their specials time. Students start in 4th grade by participating in exploratory band where they take a journey of trying multiple instruments to find the best one for them! Once students find the best fit instrument they choose it and continue playing it in 5th and 6th grades. Students can join as new students in 5th and 6th grade but it is much harder to catch up with everything they have missed in the years prior. Band is a great experience for any student wanting to play instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion!
